3/28/12-Something Historical–Opening Day PacBell Park-April 11,2000-Photography by Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

With a trip to Scottsdale to play the Giants on the schedule today, even with all of the bustling that is going on at Camelback, Los Angeles and New York in preparation for Magic’s group to be introduced, I thought this photo of another period in Dodger history would be cool to present.

In this photo are Bob Daly, Davey Johnson and Bob Graziano from the first ball game at PacBell Park on April 11, 2000.  © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

This is one of my favorite images from this historical opening game of the ballpark and it was taken after the game. Kevin Elster reflects on hitting not only the first home run in PacBell Park history but the first three home runs in PacBell Park History.  Taken with my Leica M6 and 35/f2 on Fujichrome 100D. © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

3/5/12-Something Historical–V.J. Lovero

Angels Photographers V.J. Lovero and John Cordes at the Big A in June 1990

V.J. Lovero and someone else photographed by Mitch Haddad at Dodger Stadium a long time ago.

Today is a special day for sports photographers in Arizona marking the annual Spring Training dinner in honor of sports photography legend V.J. Lovero at Don and Charlies. V.J. was the team photographer for the Angels and for Sports Illustrated for many years until his passing in 2004. His peers and friends led by Brad Mangin hold this annual dinner at Don and Charlie’s in honor of our friend. I was fortunate enough to be able to attend last year.

V.J. was a GREAT guy and his friendship during our early years as team photographers for each of our teams was something I will always cherish.

Having only experienced Spring Training in Vero Beach while V.J. was alive, I never had the opportunity to play in his over the line games with the photographers in Arizona. I heard it was a lot of fun.

Cheers V.J.!

2/7/12-Something Historical–Tommy Lasorda in Norristown,PA-October 7,2008

Heading to Philadelphia for play off games against the Phillies in 2008, Tommy had cars waiting to take some of the traveling party to Norristown for dinner. At his hometown were three of his four brothers along with a whole room of residents welcoming Tommy home. The sheriff of Norristown is in the background. Highlight of this trip for me was trying Limoncello for the first time ever…WOW!      © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

2/6/12-Something Historical–Matt Kemp and Blake Griffin-September 2009

Blake Griffin and Matt Kemp hang out in the dugout prior to game against the Diamondbacks September 2, 2009. Rarely does anyone make Kemp look small but Griffin does.    © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

This is not the most recent dunk against the Oklahoma City Thunder that has been seen all over the internet. This dunk was another incredible “Blake Griffin Special” as his head was literally on the other side of the back board when he threw it down last season against the Bulls.  © Jon SooHoo/2010

2/6/12-Something Historical–Don Sutton’s Special Day at Cooperstown July 26,1998

On the day Don Sutton was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame, I was able to get this gem of fellow Dodger Hall of Famers Tom Lasorda and Sandy Koufax with the gorgeous background of Lake Otsego at the Otesaga Resort and Hotel in Cooperstown, New York in July 1998.  © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

On this same day Dodgers Spanish Broadcaster Jaime Jarrin was also inducted into the Hall of Fame receiving the Ford Frick Award and I will put up an entry of his special day in the near future.

2/4/12-Something Historical–1988 Informal Reunion in Oakland-July, 2001

Interleague play brought us to Oakland in 2001 where I was able to get this group shot of members of the 1988 World Champions.

In it are John Shelby (L to R), Jesse Orosco, Mike Davis, Manny Mota and equipment man Super Dave Wright.

Whenever I can, I try to get members I run into along the way to get in these group shots.

It is my goal to get a reunion together of the entire 1988 team someday.  Center fielder John Shelby said it is time to do something. He said “Even my minor league championship team had a 10 year reunion”.    © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers

2/4/12-Something Historical—Bowling Night at Vero Bowl-February,2004

Los Angeles Dodgers staff sometimes weekly bowling tournament led by commissioner Glenn Hoffman (L) helped us pass the time during the long Spring. Along with the rugged basketball games on the outdoor court at Dodgertown, bowling was a great way to bond with fellow staffers. Only a few in this photo remain with the organization which was taken in 2004.  © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers
