12/3/12-Something Historical-Rest In Peace-”Super Dave” David Wright-Photography by Jon SooHoo/©Los Angeles Dodgers,LLC 2012
I just heard about the passing of my friend and longtime Dodgers equipment man “Super Dave” David Wright. David worked under head equipment man Nobe Kawano then became in charge around 1990ish. The torch was eventually passed on to current head equipment man Mitch Poole.
I was fortunate enough to be able to get the three of them together for a portrait in August of 2007
This is pretty historic as this is all of Los Angeles Dodgers Head Equipment Men since coming to Los Angeles. Mitch Poole (L to R), Nobe Kawano and David Wright.
In 2012, I was able to get a photo of David with one his favorite Dodger players Mike Scioscia.
Rest In Peace Super Dave…

Just heard about the passing of my friend, public address announcer David Courtney. He worked in Los Angeles for the Kings, Clippers and filled in once in awhile with the Dodgers. He was also the public address announcer in Anaheim for the Angels.
I first met David in KABC’s helicopter flying over LA with him as he did the traffic reports.
This photo is from January 13, 2011 at Staples Center for a Kings game.
He was very easy to talk to and he will be sorely missed.
11/28/12-Something Historical-The Boss plays Dodger Stadium-8/17/03-Photography by Jon SooHoo/©Los Angeles Dodgers,LLC 2012
As the Boss prepares to make his California stops this and next week, I found a couple of my images from his 2003 tour date at Dodger Stadium. Unfortunately the team bus from LAX, after our Chicago road trip, arrived in Lot A halfway through the show and I was not able to use the photo credential set aside to shoot the first three songs up front. But I did get these from the Club level. What a great show…..as always. Photography by Jon SooHoo/©Los Angeles Dodgers,LLC 2012
11/21/12-Something Historical-”Foot Race” May 2001–Photo by Jon SooHoo/©Los Angeles Dodgers,LLC 2012
Then Rockies’ outfielder Juan Pierre races Dodger pitcher Darren Dreifort to first base. Taken at Coors Field May 21, 2001.
Because it was taken that long ago, I can’t remember who won the foot race but I am sure some baseball-aholic will let me know.
But in the words of Dodgers first base coach Davey Lopes to our pitchers during Spring Training drills….”Just tag him!”
Still made a really cool frame of three of my favorite Dodgers. That is Karros in the background.
Now that it is official regarding Mark McGwire, here are a few of my favorite Mark McGwire images from my past…..
I took this photo for the cover for USA Today Baseball Weekly in the 1990′s for their Winter issue. I shot this at Mark’s house in Huntington Beach and I spent a lot of time stringing lights around the wreath and hung it on a back drop set up with fishing wire.
Back in the 90′s, when the anthem was performed in centerfield and I there waiting for it to begin, I would have moments where opposing players would sprint from the baselines into centerfield to loosen up. During this moment, both met up and because I knew both wore my favorite line of gear “No Fear”, I asked if they wouldn’t mind posing for me. They agreed and the result is this…Nothing beats having an exclusive with two icons….JS
Also back in the 90′s, the dugout level housed the team family room which also doubled as my makeshift studio. I don’t remember why these three (Bobby Bonilla, Mark McGwire and Royce Clayton) were in there but they all sat for this photo. Other than the prop less photos I had normally taken, I found these toys around the room that the Dodgers kids played with. Mark decided to put these in his mouth. I can’t imagine how many mouths these dinosaurs have been in prior to Mark….Ewwww!
