7/14/15-Something Historical–1995 All Star Starting Pitchers Hideo Nomo and Randy Johnson by Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers

It is hard to believe that it was 20 years ago when I was fortunate enough to be able to photograph my first All Star game. Being one of the few team photographers allowed in the outfield while MLB Photos Chief Rich Pilling set up to do the actual team photos, I was able to pull off this pretty cool image of the two starting pitchers…Los Angeles Dodgers Hideo Nomo and Seattle Mariners Randy Johnson between the team photos.

I consider it an honor to be given both of their permission to do this shot even with being Randy’s photo boss at the Daily Trojan years earlier.  Thank you for letting me record your history gentlemen. Congratulations next week to you Randy.

1/7/15-Something Hall of Famelike by Jon SooHoo/LA Dodgers

Congratulations to Baseball Hall of Fame inductees Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez….

While I was the Chief Photographer at the Daily Trojan, I hired Randy to be a staff photographer in hope of beating the Daily Bruin in football. It didn’t work but I am glad I hired him as he was and is a really good photographer.

In 1991, I followed Orel Hershiser up to Bakersfield to photograph his rehab game and I took this photo of a young Pedro Martinez waving to the ladies in the grandstand.

In 1993 during the Los Angeles Dodgers Friendship tour to Taiwan and Fukuoka, Japan, I took these of Ramon’s younger brother…5008 5057

and I was fortunate enough to catch up with Randy in Arizona thanks to Josh and Derrick for inviting me into say hello and thanks to Jennifer Stewart for taking the photo.10274191_4235590825181_211991162732680558_n

It was great working with and photographing both of you Hall of Famers.

2/5/12-Something Historical–Future Champions-September 2001

Being friends with peers from the opposing teams, sometimes I am given the opportunity to take some really cool photos. I know I am going to get grief for showing this non Dodgers historical photo but this was too cool to pass up. In it are the future 2001 World Champions Arizona Diamondbacks posing during our batting practice at then Bank One Ballpark. Because NL West players rotate teams from within so often, I am glad I did take this photograph as I am proud to call some of the these gentlemen friends after they came through the Dodgers clubhouse. And with fellow Daily Trojan photographer Randy Johnson from my staff  a long, long time ago in it makes this photo even more special for me. From left to right are Mark Grace, Curt Schilling, Reggie Sanders, Steve Finley, Bob Brenly, Randy Johnson, Matt Williams, Tony Womack, Luis Gonzalez and Craig Counsell taken September 30, 2001 at Bank One Ballpark.        © Jon SooHoo/Los Angeles Dodgers
